Vestas Wind Systems - November 20, 2012

Description: NV5 is the Program Manager providing design and construction management, oversight, and complete owner's representation services for Vestas Wind Systems, the largest manufacturer of Wind Turbines in the world. The program consists of the design and construction of two blade facilities, a nacelle facility, a tower facility, and a US training and operations headquarters facility. For each of the facilities, NV5 leads the efforts for selection of the facility design team, contractor prequalification and selection, construction management of the facility, start-up for facility operations, and eventual turnover to the Client for operation. As separate items on these projects, NV5 also provides the civil site master planning and design for the sites and building infrastructure, as well as survey services. Each of the groups works closely with the local municipalities and utility entities to make sure that the designs comply with the required specifications so that approvals can be expedited and any challenges addressed quickly. The magnitude of the designs for the total of almost 760-acres and over $600 million in construction is challenging. Each task from site selection through design and startup of the facility is on a fast track schedule. This factor is further complicated by evolving needs of the client that have greatly affected the design of the facility components. Changes in site and facility design occur throughout the process and NV5 has built a fluid team that is able to adapt quickly to these changes and yield a positive outcome.
